Privacy policy

This site is a personal blog run by Karim Boudjema. This page says what it collects, what it does not, and who else is involved. Last revised on 24 August 2026.

What this site collects

If you write to me through the contact form, it records the name, email address and message you type. The only other thing that measures anything about visitors is Google Analytics, described below, and it counts nothing unless you allow it. There is no advertising on this site.

The web server keeps ordinary technical logs, including your IP address, the page requested and your browser identification, for security and troubleshooting.

The contact form

Your message is stored on this site and is also emailed to me through my own Gmail account, so a copy passes through Google mail servers in transit. I keep submissions until I delete them by hand, and I use your address only to reply to you.

Google reCAPTCHA

Three pages are protected by Google reCAPTCHA v2: the contact form, the login form and the password-reset form. When you open one of them your browser loads a script from Google, and reCAPTCHA sets cookies in order to tell a person from a bot.

This sends data to Google, including your IP address and how you interact with the page, and it is governed by Google's own privacy terms rather than by mine. No other page on this site loads it, and reading the blog never does.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to see which articles get read and roughly where readers come from. It is the only thing on this site that measures anything about you, and on your first visit a banner asks whether you allow it. Until you accept, Google Analytics stores nothing on your device: no cookie, no identifier, nothing that could recognize you when you come back.

If you accept, it sets two cookies in your browser, named "_ga" and "_ga_" followed by the property number, and it sends Google your IP address, the pages you open and when you open them. That data is governed by Google's own privacy terms rather than by mine.

If you decline, or if you simply ignore the banner, nothing is stored on your device. Google's script does still load on every page, and it sends Google your IP address and the address of the page you are reading, flagged as not consented: Google receives them with no identifier attached, so I cannot recognize you, cannot link your visits to each other, and cannot count you as a reader.

You can change your mind at any time with the small privacy button in the bottom-right corner of every page, and switching Google Analytics back off there also deletes the cookies it had set. Declining costs you nothing, because every page of this site works exactly the same either way.

Cookies

While you are only reading, this site stores nothing on your device until you answer the consent banner. Your answer is then kept in a single cookie named "klaro", which exists only to remember it so you are not asked again, and which lasts 180 days. The Google Analytics cookies described above appear only if you accepted them, and the reCAPTCHA cookies only on the three form pages listed above. Sending a message through the contact form sets a short-lived Drupal session cookie, which only carries the confirmation back to you and then expires. There is no advertising cookie and no third-party social script: the share buttons are plain links rendered by the server, so they load nothing from the networks they point to.
